Travel grants will be made available to early career researchers who are registered members of NWE-IUSSI to support their in-person attendance at the International IUSSI meeting in Freiburg, Germany.

The deadline for applications is 31st January 2026 and awards will be made available by mid-March so that delegates can register at the “early-bird” rate (available until March 31st).

Eligibility criteria for award

1. The applicant must be a member of the NW European Section of the IUSSI.

2. The priority for this funding round is to support and encourage student attendance at the IUSSI International Congress. However, applications will be accepted from section members who are not currently students but the applicants must provide a detailed justification for their application, including other sources of funding.

3. The applicant must have either submitted an abstract to give an oral or poster presentation, or be organising a symposium at the 2026 IUSSI International Congress in Freiburg, Germany.

4. Funds may only be used to support attendance at the 2026 IUSSI International Congress.

5. The amount requested must not exceed £1,000 GBP if travelling by train/bus or £800 if flying. Requests for less may increase success chances if overall demand exceeds our budget.

6. Grants will be given only to the presenting author. Only one grant will be awarded per individual.

Selection process:

Priority will be given to

1. Students

2. Abstracts rated highly for clarity and scientific merit

3. Applicants presenting a compelling case for why the conference is relevant to their studies

4. Applicants who have not received a travel grant from the section previously (during their current degree/position)

5. Applicants in the latter years of their PhD studies

6. Applicants who have exhausted other alternatives for funding

7. Applicants who's primary supervisor is a NWE IUSSI section member.
